  • Poor connectivity deters reverse migration in hills

  • Despite the state government’s several initiatives proposed to curb migration from the hills, the reverse migration in these areas is yet to gain pace mainly due to the connectivity issues faced by locals.

  • According to sources, though many youths prefer to move back to the hills being tired of the monotonous city life, lack of access to even basic facilities like a proper internet connection has proven to be a deterrent for several of them.

  • No new exchange has been set up or underground cables laid here since 2003. There is no investment also as it is quite expensive. The other option is optical fibres which is also not cost-effective. While the cost of a new connection ranges from Rs 30,000 to 50,000, around Rs 2.5 lakh has to be spent for optical fibre lines.
