India, Germany, Brazil, Japan ‘absolutely needed’ at UNSC as permanent members: France
- India and nations like Germany, Brazil and Japan are “absolutely needed” as permanent members of a reformed and enlarged UN Security Council to better reflect contemporary realities.
- India is at the forefront of efforts at the UN to push for the long-pending reform of the Security Council, emphasising that it rightly deserves a place at the UN high table as a permanent member.
Two Indians, among 115 UN personnel, staff honoured for sacrifice in line of duty
- Police Officer Jitender Kumar serving in the UN Organisation Stabilisation Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) and Shikha Garg, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) consultant attached with India’s Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, along with 113 UN personnel and staff, lost their lives in the service of peace between January 2018 and March 2019.

G D Robert Govender conferred V K Krishna Menon award 2019
- G D ‘Robert’ Govender, an Indian-origin journalist in South Africa, has been honoured in the UK with 2019 V K Krishna Menon award for his outstanding contribution as a pioneer of decolonised journalism.
- The South Africa-born journalist was awarded posthumously during an event here on Friday to mark the 123rd birth anniversary of Indian diplomat and politician V K Krishna Menon.
Centre asks Supreme Court to rethink elevation of two High Court judges
- The Central government has asked the Supreme Court to re-consider its recommendation to elevate Jharkhand High Court and Gauhati High Court Chief Justices Aniruddha Bose and A.S. Bopanna, respectively, to the Supreme Court.
- Presently there are 27 judges in the Supreme Court. If the two judges are eventually appointed, the number would go up to 29. The sanctioned judicial strength in the Supreme Court is 31.
