  • CM opens much-awaited double-lane tunnel on NH 72 A

 

  • The double lane tunnel on national highway 72 A near Dat Kali temple was inaugurated by Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat

 

 

  • With this development, the flow of traffic on this highway linking Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh will not be disrupted by jams at this stretch which was notorious for traffic congestion. Named after Bharat Ratna recipient M. Visvesvaraya, the tunnel is 340 metres long, 5.50 metres high and has 1.50 metre wide footpaths on both the sides.

 

  • The State Government is laying special focus on improvement of roads which will enhance convenience experienced both by locals and tourists.

·        India imposes anti-dumping duty on certain steel products from China

 

  • The revenue department has imposed the duty based on the recommendations of the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR).
  • A joint application was filed by domestic steel industries like JSW Steel Ltd, Sunflag Iron & Steel Co, Usha Martin, Gerdau Steel India, Vardhman Special Steels and Jayaswal Neco Industries before DGTR to initiate an investigation on this issue.
  • The DGTR performed investigations and made recommendations on anti-dumping duties on some steel products.
  • The goods have been exported to India from China below normal value and the domestic industry has been affected.

 

·        Rwanda announced gender balanced cabinets with 50 percent women

 

  • Rwanda, the East African nation, announced gender-balanced Cabinetswith 50% women. It said that women now make up half of the slimmed-down, 26-seat Cabinet. A higher number of women in decision-making roles might lead to a decrease in gender discrimination and gender-based crimes.
  • Inter-Parliamentary Union and UN Women said that Rwandajoins a handful of countries, mostly European, where women make up 50% or more of ministerial positions. The country has received international recognition for female representation in government, with women making up 61% of Parliament.

·        Kerala the first smoke-free State to have 100% LPG

  • India’s first railway station inside tunnel to come up in Himachal Pradesh

 

  • For the first time in India, a railway station will be built inside a tunnel at a height of 3,000 metres, on the strategic Bilaspur-Manali-Leh line close to the Sino-India border.

 

  • While many metro stations in Delhi and other cities are inside tunnels, once completed, the Keylong station in Himachal Pradesh will be the first on the railway network to be inside a tunnel.

 

  • Keylong is the administrative centre of Lahaul and Spiti district, 26 km north of Manali and 120 km from the Indo-Tibetan border.

 

·        Save Bandipur activists protested against the elevated highways through national parks

 

 

  • Activists protested against the proposed elevated highways through national parks. Around 150 activists protested at Melkamanahalli gate, Karnataka. The Save Bandipur drivegained traction against the proposed elevated highways through national parks.
  • Earlier, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways(MoRTH), Government of India, proposed that it wanted to develop five stretches of 1 km each, of elevated roads, through the national park to ensure that there was the 24×7 movement of vehicles along the National Highway 212 (renamed as NH 766).
  • The activists of Bandipur Ulisi or Save Bandipur campaign submitted a memorandum to the authorities registering their opposition to the infrastructure project.

 

 

 

  • Mumbai beat Delhi to win Vijay Hazare Trophy 2018

 

 

  • Mumbai defeated Delhi by four wickets to win their third Vijay Hazare Trophy title at M Chinnaswamy stadium.

 

  • Mumbai last won the trophy way back in 2006-07 when they defeated Rajasthan.

 

  • The Vijay Hazare Trophy was started in 2002–03 as a limited-overs cricket domestic competition.

 

  • It is named after the famous Indian cricketer Vijay Hazare.

 

·        India won five more gold medals in Asian Para Games 2018

 

  • India wonfive gold medals in the sixth day of Asian Para Games 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
  • Jennitha Anto clinched the gold in women’s individual rapid P1 chess event after beating Manurung Roslinda of Indonesia 1-0 in the final round.
