  • State gets natural claim on 300 mw power

  • The claim of Uttarakhand on total 300 MW power produced by Lakhwad multipurpose project has been accepted by other States involved in the project. In the meeting of Upper Yamuna Review Committee held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat said that the State has got natural rights on all 300 MW of power produced from the Lakhwad Multipurpose power project as the State is bearing entire cost of the project.

  • The meeting attended by representatives of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand was chaired by Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadakari.

  • The contention of Uttarakhand CM on total power produced by the Lakhwad project was accepted by other States. For sharing of water of the project it was decided that the distribution would be done on the basis of agreement done in the year 1994. All the states associated with this project would soon formally release their acceptance on the agreement.

  • The firm presentation of the interests of Uttarakhand by its CM ensured removal of the objection raised by the Rajasthan.  In the meeting Rawat also demanded that the distribution of power and water of the Kisau hydro power project should be done on the lines of Lakhwad project.

  • The participants also agreed that the financial assistance for the Lakhwad project should be soon released from the cabinet committee of economic affairs.

  • It is worth mentioning here that the differences among different states had persisted on three projects (Kisau, Lakhwad and Renuka) located in Yamuna valley about water sharing as per the 1994 accord. The meeting of Thursday assumes significance as all the states have decided to sign the letter of agreement without any further delay
